Golden Globes After-Parties: Trends, Surprises, And Our Favorite Wardrobe Changes

Regardless of whether or not you scored a nomination, the Golden Globes after-parties have long-provided the perfect excuse for stars to dust off that designer gown they've been meaning to wear since, like, FOREVER. (Forever meaning since it hit the Spring 2014 runways, of course.) The step-and-repeats at parties thrown by InStyle/Warner Bros. and Netflix/The Weinstein Company brought some stellar wardrobe changes from the show's attendees and a whole new set of stars who gave us plenty to swoon over. We picked out a few of our faves, which included Nina Dobrev, Taylor Swift, and two very dapper Jonas Brothers.

TROPICAL BRIGHTS

Now that the Golden Globes are over, if you need me, I'll be down by the beach sipping on a piña colada. JK. I'll be in my robe, on my couch, binge-watching something on Netflix, probably. A girl can't help but dream about bikinis and sunshine, though, especially after seeing all the bold, sunny colors that some stars showed up in for the InStyle/Warner Bros. after-party. Nikki Reed channeled the Caribbean Sea in an aqua-colored gown by Monique Lhuillier, which had a train that resembled gentle waves. (I'm not still dreaming, I swear.) Hunger Games alum, Isabelle Fuhrman, chose a canary-yellow drop-waist dress by Paper London. I can almost feel my first sunburn, can't you? Finally, former Revenge star Ashley Madekwe looked like a (super-elegant) fruity, frozen concoction in a tri-color gown by Roksanda Ilincic. Wake me up when summer comes back, kthx.

NOT-SO-BASIC BLACK

When in doubt, always go with classic black. But classic doesn't have to mean boring. Take Nina Dobrev, for example, who straight-up SIZZLED in a shoulder-baring, bling-encrusted midi-dress by Armani Privé. I think this is the first time I've ever been temporarily blinded by décolletage. It's fine, though. I didn't need my eyes today. Perpetual cutie, Hailee Steinfeld, looked lovely beyond her years in a fitted, mermaid-shaped gown by Andrew Gn, which featured a semi-sheer bottom panel and sliced shoulder cut-outs, and was decorated with a small flock of gold birds and stars. Disney darling, Bella Thorne, also embraced black in a two-piece outfit by Paper London. The fit of this is so perfect on her, though it really looks more like a dress that was cut out at the middle to receive mail and/or other small parcels.

BEST WARDROBE CHANGES

It's tough enough to ~really~ kill it once at an awards show, but to kill it twice in one night? (Cue Beyonce's "Flawless.") Obvi, we were big fans of Emma Watson's glorified apron-over-pants by Christian Dior, but we were pleasantly surprised by her after-party choice as well: a super-feminine dress by Theory, with a plunging V-neck and a sheer overlay covered in silver, sparkly embellishments. It was basically the ying to her Christian Dior yang, IMO. Taylor Swift also changed into black for the after-party in a netted LBD (emphasis on the L) by Julien MacDonald. And no, your eyes are not deceiving you—that is actually T. Swift IRL that you're looking at, not a Madame Tussauds wax figure. Yeah, yeah, we know. She's just THAT perfect. *sigh*

COMPLIMENTARY ARM CANDY

Dudes don't get nearly enough credit for their red carpet risks. Sure, a "risk" may be a bolder shade of navy or a slimmer-cut suit (or a messy man-bun, in this year's case), but fellas like to look good, too. Of course, when there are so many statement-making ladies taking all the photogs' attention, it's tough for guys to find a way to shine. That's why we gotta give it up for two-thirds of the Jonas Brothers, whose dates might as well have been cufflinks (really, really pretty cufflinks) in comparison to their eye-catching threads.

Little Bro Nick put on the ritz at the InStyle after-party with a black bow tie and a sharp navy suit with a slight, slick sheen. His girlfriend, Olivia Culpo, took on the not-so-basic black trend in a caped cocktail dress, nude pumps, and a fushia clutch. In a total TWINSIES! move, Joe Jonas' girlfriend, Blanda Eggenschwiler, also chose to go black in a long, fitted DSquared2 gown. Word on the street is that last night was an actual double-date for the two Bros, so it's totally possible they planned that. Or maybe they both just really like black. IDK. Joe chose to go with DSquared2 as well (#BFFs), pairing his black pants, shirt, and tie with a *cough* gold-print blazer. Well done, dudes.
